ASPLEY GUISE WALK No. 2 – Mermaid Pond Walk

Introduction
History, Wildlife, Enjoyable Walks.  The peaceful village of Aspley Guise offers opportunities to
explore its distinctive landscape and interesting past.  It's easily accessible by train to Aspley Guise Station requiring a short walk to the Square at the village centre where the walk begins.

The Mermaid Pond Walk begins at the Square and crosses Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands golf course.  Onto Woburn Sands entering Aspley Wood following footpaths passing Mermaid Pond.  From there it follows footpaths beyond Birchmoor Lodge before returning to Aspley Guise via Gypsy Lane.

Parking is available in the Village Hall car park on Spinney Lane.

This circular route starts and finishes at the square in Aspley Guise.

Access and General Information
Length: 5 miles (8km)   Time: About 2.5 hours
Surface Types: The walk goes across varied surfaces ranging from a hard, firm surface to grass or uncultivated earth paths and through woodland. It is advisable to wear suitable footwear. Early in the walk there is a steep slope with a hand rail as you walk up footpath 17.  At the end of footpath 18 you join a country road Gypsy Lane for a short distance before walking along footpath 8 towards Aspley Guise Lower School and returning to the Square. Stile free.


Refreshments: Refreshments are available at local pubs. The Anchor is by the Square.  The Swan and The Fir Tree in Woburn Sands are around halfway round this walk
